Busy busy

I haven't been crafting much lately but I DO have to do Lily's birthday card!! I have (as some may know) just signed up to the Open University to do a degree.  I haven't studied for at least 25 years and its going to take me 6 years - IF all goes to plan.  I am quite excited but terrified too and at the moment I am trying desperately to get my head around the course materials for the first module.  The panic will, I hope, wear off and I will get myself into a regime that will include free time and craft time!

For now, I have started this image from Tiddlyinks for Lily's card but I have only done the hair! It's called Magda and Sparkles.  I had the image for ages but was terrified of doing it! Lol! (Seem to be spending a lot of time being terrified lately!!)

Now I have done the hair and I am pleased with it - I am scared to go on and colour the rest for fear of spoiling it!!! Aw well..........................................I have till 17th September as I am going away on the 18th and I want to post it before I leave!

Thanks for looking! Lea xx

Secondly, a card for my step-son.  He and his dad are great cricket fans!  The image is from Just Inklined and its called Fast Freddie. Coloured (of course) with Promarkers and the background paper is KanBan.

Welcome to your new home

This is NOT a kit! Lol!

Its for my son and his girlfriend who have just set up home together!

Background is KanBan card, charm and peel off from stash. Image from The Paper Shelter, coloured with Promarkers!

Thanks for looking! Lea xx

Elliot's 4th Birthday! Little Monkey!

Can't believe I bought a kit today but just couldn't get what I wanted and ran out of time!   Elliots birthday is Tuesday but his party is tomorrow and as I am starting jury service on Monday I wanted it out of the way rather than have it get there late! Hope he likes it - and at 4 years old I doubt he will worry that it was a kit!! In fact he probably wont notice the card at all! Just the present!

Izzy's ProMarker colouring

Eldest grand-daughter Izzy came for the weekend and she was allowed to use nannys special pens! I was quite impressed. She has never used them before and I printed off some of my digis for her. Three Saturated Canary ones and a freebie teddy from Elliphantastic! Didn't she do well!

Congratulations on your new job!

I made this for a colleague at work who has achieved a secondment for 12 months still working in the same office but definitely a good career move.  She loved it!! Its a Kenny K dig stamp, coloured with Promarkers.

Multi-tasking Mama

I love this image from Saturated Canary.  I have used it to make a card for my friend who is a busy Mum with a 2 year old and a 4 month old.  Brings back memories too - trying to work with a baby on my hip :-)

thanks for looking xx

The end of an era!

Massey Ferguson (the tractor builders) were just up the road from where I live.  Like most industries it went into decline, got taken over by AGCO, an American company and finally folded.  The site of the factory has been gone quite a while now and a massive housing estate has sprung up.  However the office tower has remained while they built around it. Wrangles over whether it should have listed status or not, then attempts to encourage someone to buy and convert it into luxury apartments. Well it all came to a very loud and sad end today changing the skyline forever!

Finished Birthday Card

Hi everyone! Oh, isn't this rain never-ending!!! Thank goodness we are going abroad this year - first proper holiday abroad in three years  (had a short city-break in Barcelona last year)!

Anyway - I have used the Mo Manning image for my daughter's birthday card. As I mentioned in my earlier post she loves anything to do with cherries! I hope she likes it!

Here is the insert:-

Guess what happened to Lily today!!!!

Tooth Fairy winging her way to the West Midlands!!!!

My bosses birthday

Hello everyone

This is just a quick card that I made for my boss for her birthday. Its made with a free Me to You set of papers and toppers and some ribbon from my stash.

I also made this card for my sister.  I am disappointed with the photograph because it looked MUCH nicer than this - it was just impossible to photograph well because of the mirri card! Its the Mo Manning image from my previous post. I made the bow myself following a tutorial from Jak Heath - she kindly sent me the links when I asked how she makes her lovely bows!!

Thanks for looking! Lea xx

Hi all  haven't been around much! Trying to improve my colouring skills (using the word 'skills' loosely) - these two haven't made it on to cards yet.  They are both Mo Manning digi stamps. The cherry one will be for my daughters birthday card and the fairy for my sisters birthday card, both in July! Hope you like - I am really enjoying the colouring.

BlogPrompt Day 10

What makes you smile?  Simples!!  These do!!!

BlogPrompt Day 9

Find your favourite quote and blog about it!

I like "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"

Apparently it began in the book "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie and there are many variations on the theme.  I read it in book called "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway" which I found very helpful in respect of taking on your demons and trying to beat them.

In  my last job I printed it out and put it on the wall by my desk.  It became known as 'ditty corner' and if I didn't change the 'ditty' for a while I would get moaned at!!  In a friendly, fun way of course!

Basically I guess it means that we all get things in life that we don't really want.  All we can really to is take what we are given and make what we can from it! Turn something sour into something sweet and lovely!! xx

BlogPrompt Day 8

The prompt today is about what book we are reading and how it inspires, or has inspired, craft!

I can't say that I have a connection between what I read and my craft - at least so far!!  I didn't read much for many years as I was too busy drinking and by the time I got to bed I would crash out straight away! Yes, drinking really does affect EVERYTHING in life!! So now I am really enjoying reading when I go to bed again.  My interests are many and varied and I get my books from the library.  I tend to mooch around until I see something that catches my eye - unless someone has recommended something to me.

At the moment I am reading a true story by Susan Lewis called One Day at a Time.  The author had a difficult time at boarding school where she was sent after her mother died and her father thought it would be good for her.  I am not too impressed with it really cos I feel its a bit light and hardly classic literature!!  I had just finished reading Jane Boleyn's biography so I guess I went from one extreme to another.

I will finish the book because I don't like to leave a book unfinished but I will find something a bit meatier next time! xxx

BlogPrompt Day 7

My Bank Holiday Monday was a lovely lunch out with friends - here's a few of them!

My daughter and her lovely family couldn't come as they are at Eurodisney but sent me lovely flowers and made me a cake before they left!!

Then, when I got home - stuffed FULL of food - I made this:-

Phew!!! Back to work for a rest tomorrow!! Lea xx

BlogPromp Day 6

OK - so yesterday was a bit heavy and emotional!!  So today all that is required is a photograph.  I decided to completely changed the mood and add something funny!!

This is my eldest grand-daughter, Izzy, when she was about 10 months old.  We were at a local country farm park and there were peacocks wandering around.  She couldn't see them at this point but she heard one make its piercing cry and was mimicking it perfectly!!!  It was so funny!!! xx

BlogPrompt Day 5

The remit for Day 5 was to choose a song that means a lot to you and make a card or scrap page with that in mind!

As many Docrafters will know I have fought a long battle with alcohol dependence.  I have had lots of support from my family and friends (including Creativity Club friends) and have now been sober for one year! There is a big celebration on Bank Holiday Monday as this will be my anniversary! My biggest, and I have to say, most tolerant, supporter has been my lovely daughter, Emma.

The song that I have felt very deeply recently is "In my Daughter's Eyes" which is sung by Alfie Boe on his latest album.

This is his version:-

And these are the words!

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the world is at peace
It's miracle God gave to me
Gives me strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe in my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand around my finger
Oh, it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
An' though she'll grow and someday leave, maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy she made me
For I'll be there in my daughter's eyes

And this is my page dedicated to her! -

Thank you Emma for having faith in me! I love you! xxxx

BlogPrompt Day 4

Hi all

I am running a day behind now! The prompt for Day 4 is "What style of cardmaker are you?"

My style includes all the latest designs using up to date tools and equipment.  I love all the flowers, swirls, papers and embellishments and always have the best stuff just as it comes out!  I spend 18 hours a day crafting, stopping only to eat or sleep! I have my own amazing craftroom filled from top to bottom with every colour under the sun!

Then I wake up.................................and stick a few bits of paper together and hope for the best!!!! ;-)

BlogPrompt Day 3 - Virtual Spring

My card using the exclusive Docrafts Creativity Club downloads.  Inspired by the grey and gloomy weather outside and and the need for some colour. Also attempted (not very successfully!) the ruffled ribbons from the latest Creativity Magazine!

BlogPrompt Day 2

The prompt is to say what my fave Docraft members galleries and/or blogs are and why!

Nope - can't do it!!!

When I get some free time (hahahaha) or if I am looking for inspiration (or for my missing mojo) I will go look in the gallery.  If a  particular style catches my eye I might jump onto that member's own gallery and have a mooch.  I can honestly say that I could not pick a single one above another!

Its the same with blogs - I join in Karen's (Redrottie) blog hop most weekends and I love to see other peoples work - which usually makes my attempts look very amateurish!!

I am glad this is a prompt and not a direct order!!! :-)

BlogPrompt Day 1

5 reasons why you should make cards (and stuff)!  In no particular order!!

1. Friends and family love receiving your home made projects!
2.  You can always produce something for a special occasion!

3.  You can enter challenges! Even if you never win!  ;-)

4. You get to do 'making time' with the grandchildren!

5. You make friends!!

What more could a girl ask for????

Docrafts Forum Challenge #24

This is my contribution to the current challenge. Something pretty with embellishments - ribbons, lace etc! The background card is C&C from Wilkinsons. The bow and sentiment topper are Docrafts, ribbons from stash, dotty paper was free download but I cant remember where from!! The flowers are my first from Wild Orchid!  And, of course, some Candi!!  Hope you like it!

Sunday, 22 April 2012

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil!!

A rather unusual event yesterday when I managed to photograph all 3 of my grandchildren together! Unfortunately they were all rather engrossed -

On the left is Izzy - she was engrossed in playing a game on the DS! In the centre is Lily - she was engrossed in playing draughts on Mummy's I-Phone! And on the right is Elliot - he was engrossed with..........erm.............his Batman figure!! Bless!

It was a short moment in time in between the chaos!!!

Friday, 13 April 2012

I won this lovely Boofle prize in the Docrafts Facebook page draw! They came today - 2 days after the draw!

Thanks Docrafts!! Lea xx

Yellow and White Challenge

This was my contribution to the Docrafts challenge! The remit was something yellow and white.  The rose image was free from Richard Bond's Simply Crafts blog! Thank you Richard!  It started off quite differently but I blobbed Clear Gloss (used for raindrops) by moving it before it was dry.  So this was plan B.

I gave it to my counsellor at my last session to thank her for all her help.  She loved it and said it was extra special as it was handmade!

Hope you like it! Lea xxx

"Liebster" in German means "dearest", so to carry on the Liebster tradition,
I am going to pass the award to 5 people whose blogs have been an inspiration to me and my crafting.

I would like to nominate:-
