I like "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"
Apparently it began in the book "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie and there are many variations on the theme. I read it in book called "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway" which I found very helpful in respect of taking on your demons and trying to beat them.
In my last job I printed it out and put it on the wall by my desk. It became known as 'ditty corner' and if I didn't change the 'ditty' for a while I would get moaned at!! In a friendly, fun way of course!
Basically I guess it means that we all get things in life that we don't really want. All we can really to is take what we are given and make what we can from it! Turn something sour into something sweet and lovely!! xx
The prompt today is about what book we are reading and how it inspires, or has inspired, craft!
I can't say that I have a connection between what I read and my craft - at least so far!! I didn't read much for many years as I was too busy drinking and by the time I got to bed I would crash out straight away! Yes, drinking really does affect EVERYTHING in life!! So now I am really enjoying reading when I go to bed again. My interests are many and varied and I get my books from the library. I tend to mooch around until I see something that catches my eye - unless someone has recommended something to me.
At the moment I am reading a true story by Susan Lewis called One Day at a Time. The author had a difficult time at boarding school where she was sent after her mother died and her father thought it would be good for her. I am not too impressed with it really cos I feel its a bit light and hardly classic literature!! I had just finished reading Jane Boleyn's biography so I guess I went from one extreme to another.
I will finish the book because I don't like to leave a book unfinished but I will find something a bit meatier next time! xxx
OK - so yesterday was a bit heavy and emotional!! So today all that is required is a photograph. I decided to completely changed the mood and add something funny!!
This is my eldest grand-daughter, Izzy, when she was about 10 months old. We were at a local country farm park and there were peacocks wandering around. She couldn't see them at this point but she heard one make its piercing cry and was mimicking it perfectly!!! It was so funny!!! xx
The remit for Day 5 was to choose a song that means a lot to you and make a card or scrap page with that in mind!
As many Docrafters will know I have fought a long battle with alcohol dependence. I have had lots of support from my family and friends (including Creativity Club friends) and have now been sober for one year! There is a big celebration on Bank Holiday Monday as this will be my anniversary! My biggest, and I have to say, most tolerant, supporter has been my lovely daughter, Emma.
The song that I have felt very deeply recently is "In my Daughter's Eyes" which is sung by Alfie Boe on his latest album.
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the world is at peace
It's miracle God gave to me
Gives me strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe in my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger
Oh, it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
An' though she'll grow and someday leave, maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy she made me
For I'll be there in my daughter's eyes
And this is my page dedicated to her! -
Thank you Emma for having faith in me! I love you! xxxx
I am running a day behind now! The prompt for Day 4 is "What style of cardmaker are you?"
My style includes all the latest designs using up to date tools and equipment. I love all the flowers, swirls, papers and embellishments and always have the best stuff just as it comes out! I spend 18 hours a day crafting, stopping only to eat or sleep! I have my own amazing craftroom filled from top to bottom with every colour under the sun!
Then I wake up.................................and stick a few bits of paper together and hope for the best!!!! ;-)
My card using the exclusive Docrafts Creativity Club downloads. Inspired by the grey and gloomy weather outside and and the need for some colour. Also attempted (not very successfully!) the ruffled ribbons from the latest Creativity Magazine!
The prompt is to say what my fave Docraft members galleries and/or blogs are and why!
Nope - can't do it!!!
When I get some free time (hahahaha) or if I am looking for inspiration (or for my missing mojo) I will go look in the gallery. If a particular style catches my eye I might jump onto that member's own gallery and have a mooch. I can honestly say that I could not pick a single one above another!
Its the same with blogs - I join in Karen's (Redrottie) blog hop most weekends and I love to see other peoples work - which usually makes my attempts look very amateurish!!
I am glad this is a prompt and not a direct order!!! :-)
I am 54 (for a few more weeks). OK - update - 55! Married to Tony with 3 grown up children, their partners and six beautiful grandchildren between us. We have a dog called Jack and a cat called Tugger.
